About the Brewery
[The Birth of Masukawa]
It was in the seventh year of the Ansei era (1860) that the first-generation Kawabata Shichiemon began brewing sake in this area of the Oshu Domain’s castle town, blessed with high-quality water and rice.
Since then, for 150 years, the tradition of sincere sake brewing has been passed down from generation to generation.
The main building and most of the brewery at Kawabata Shuzo are structures dating back to the Edo period, built primarily of cypress and cedar; the moment you step inside the brewery, you are enveloped by the refreshing aroma of sake.
Masukawa sake is crafted using soft water from the Tone and Arakawa river basins, along with sake-brewing rice varieties such as Yamada Nishiki. Produced through traditional techniques and meticulous quality control, it offers a refreshing drinking experience.
